For newcomers to tablature(tab) for the guitar
-
Tab is a method of transcribing guitar music.
-
The buskers' method takes the following format
- Six lines are drawn across the page to represent the guitar strings.
- The thinnest string (the first string) is at the top of the page.
- Numbers representing frets played are displayed on the lines.
- A zero means play the string un-fretted or open.
C
- ---------------------------------------0----
- ------------------------------0---1---1----
- ---------------------0---2------------0----
- -------0---2---3----------------------|----
- ---3-----------------------------------3---
- ---------------------------------------------
- The above represents the C Major Scale followed by the C Major chord.
- Time signatures can be added.
- Chords can be played by stacking fret numbers and joining them with a line.
- Chords are usually named above their occurrence.
- Other decorations and instructions will generally be described on a tab sheet.
