Be outside with an expansive view of the sky if possible.
Sit with a triangular base (fold the legs into a very stable, mountain-like base but sit on a cushion and do not strain the legs.)
Keep the back perfectly straight - this is most important.
Move the head into a rewarding angle - explore with your eyes closed for a position which feels good. Generally about 45 degrees to the floor is good - adjust for mood.
Close the eyes if you prefer.
Look within - that is - monitor your thought stream. Notice the gap that exists between thoughts.Explore this gap by stretching it.
The last can be aided by the Buddha Dharma to monitor the breath.
On the intake think in. On the out breath think out. Avoid the temptation to control the breath - simply monitor it. Disregard thought that arises by ' dropping it like a piece of dead wood' - Zen aphorism.
After a time you can cease to watch the breath and enter the gap of meditation - no thought.
